Cannabis Island & SLS Cannabis Switch to BrotherPOS
See how two Indigenous dispensaries, Cannabis Island in Akwesasne and SLS Cannabis in Listuguj, use BrotherPOS for debit, offline sales and live menus.
One shop is on the St. Lawrence River and the other is on the Restigouche. Both now use a POS system built for dispensaries like theirs.
Cannabis Island and SLS Cannabis are about 900 kilometers apart, but their menus on RezWeed have something in common. Both carry the same label: “Live from BrotherPOS.” Their menus come straight from the system they use at the counter. When a product sells in the store, the online menu updates too. Here’s a closer look at both shops and what the switch means.
Cannabis Island — Akwesasne, Ontario
246 Island Rd, Cornwall, ON · 613-363-1784 · Open daily, 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Cannabis Island is an owner-verified dispensary in Akwesasne Mohawk Territory, near Cornwall, Ontario. It serves the local Mohawk community and people travelling through eastern Ontario along the St. Lawrence. The shop has a 4.5-star rating from 33 reviews. It takes debit, has an ATM on site, and offers online ordering.
The shop is known for good prices and lots of choice. Flower is sold on bottom, middle, top and VIP shelves, and the shop also carries oils, CBD creams, RSO, gummies and chocolate. Customers who spend $50 or more get a toll pass, and the shop has a loyalty card. The menu is big: its RezWeed listing shows 402 products, from $3 pre-rolls to concentrates, glass, and Cannabis Island hats and hoodies.
Why BrotherPOS is a good fit: A shop that prices flower by shelf needs a system that can handle different price levels. BrotherPOS lets stores set prices by quality grade (AA, AAA, AAAA and Exotics), and it works out the price for each weight automatically. It also has a built-in points program with reward levels that tracks points for you, so a paper loyalty card can become a digital one. For a shop with over 400 products, the strain database saves a lot of time because it fills in THC, CBD, terpene and effect details automatically.
Why the switch to BrotherPOS?
Easy setup, easy to use, and the simplest “training” a dispensary could ask for when getting staff familiarized with it. It isn’t like a POS and inventory system for a restaurant or home wares store; it’s cannabis-specific, with all the categories built in, so all you do is stock figures and they’re automatically adjusted on every sale. This makes restocking as simple as ever.
SLS Cannabis — Listuguj, Quebec
57 B Bd Interprovincial, Listuguj, QC · 1-877-568-7442 · Mon & Sun 9 a.m.–10 p.m., Tue–Sat 9 a.m.–midnight

SLS Cannabis is an Indigenous-owned store in Listuguj Mi’gmaq First Nation. It sits on the Quebec side of the Restigouche River, near Pointe-à-la-Croix. It serves both locals and visitors from across the border, and it’s open every day. The shop is right across the river from Campbellton, New Brunswick. Its staff know flower and concentrates well and serve customers in both English and French.
SLS has put real work into its online presence. The shop launched a new website this year, which a February post introduced as the new site from owner Steven Mitchel. The site promotes daily in-store deals and shipping across Canada, with free shipping on orders over $250. On RezWeed, SLS has a 4.8-star rating from 32 reviews, ships orders, delivers around Listuguj, and takes debit. Its menu lists 387 products, including its own house shatter and edibles as well as brands like Gas Gang, Buddha Boys and Honey Badger Extracts.
Why BrotherPOS is a good fit: SLS sells three ways: in store, by local delivery, and by mail. That’s hard to manage unless all three use the same stock count. BrotherPOS has a delivery system with a secure driver app, delivery zones, route planning and live order updates. It also has an optional plug-in for WooCommerce, a popular online store tool, that keeps stock, loyalty points and deals matched between the website and the store. Online orders go straight back into the POS. Since SLS already runs a WordPress website, this is an easy match.
What These Two Shops Have in Common
The two shops are in different provinces and different Nations, but they deal with many of the same problems. BrotherPOS was built to solve those problems.
Taking payments without getting shut off
Many banks and payment companies still treat cannabis as risky. BrotherPOS comes from Brother Processing Solutions, a Montreal payment company operating since 2014 and focused on cannabis since 2019, specifically for Indigenous and reserve land dispensaries. The company first built BrotherPOS for the dispensaries it was already processing payments for. Stores can take Interac debit right in the POS, with no extra machines needed. The system can also send a customer a payment request by text or email with the amount already filled in, and the customer approves it in their banking app.
Working with 5G when the store internet goes down
Both dispensaries are on reserve land away from big cities, where sometimes internet service drops or is spotty (not ideal mid-transaction at the counter!). With BrotherPOS, the register keeps making sales when the internet drops using the POS machine’s 5G connectivity. Once the connection comes back, everything syncs on its own to the system.
Easy to start and easy to afford
Small shops don’t have time for complicated software. BrotherPOS costs one flat price of $99 CAD a month with every feature included. There are no setup fees and no contracts. The company says most dispensaries are up and running in one to two weeks, and free training is included for the whole team.
What This Means for BrotherPOS and for Cannabis Sales
The biggest detail here is the small “Live from BrotherPOS” tag. When a store’s POS feeds its online menu directly, the price a customer sees on their phone matches the price at the counter. Many customers drive a long way to get to shops like these, so an accurate menu gives them a reason to make the trip.
It also shows BrotherPOS growing into much more than a checkout system. It now includes a built-in online store, TV menu boards, a customer-facing screen at checkout, and promo games like Spin the Wheel and scratch cards. There’s also an AI store manager that predicts sales, warns you before items run out, and writes up reorders. All of these tools aim to bring in more customers or help each visit bring in more money, and they all run on the same stock data.
The network keeps growing. Brother Processing says it works with cannabis businesses across Canada and the U.S., covering every reserve and reservation in the market. Each new shop that shares its live menu makes it easier for customers to find what they want. More customers bring more traffic, and more traffic brings in more shops. Cannabis Island and SLS Cannabis are just two stores, but they show a clear trend. More and more Indigenous dispensaries are picking tools made for their business instead of making do with general retail software.
