Over the past few years, CBD has become one of the most popular wellness and wellbeing products available today. We’re not just talking about Cannabis dispensaries or coffee shops, you can find CBD available in nearly every corner store, gas station, and grocery store in Canada and the United States. So why is the popularity seemingly out of nowhere? CBD was unheard of by the general population some ten years ago, and now you have grandmothers and cancer patients taking the stuff regularly.

So what gives? Is CBD just a passing health fad like so many others? Why has it caught on so strongly? Is there medical science behind the health claims? The answers you get to these questions will depend on who you ask, let’s take a look at what we do know about CBD today.

Cannabidiol Offers Many Benefits

Cannabidiol, aka “CBD”, is a substance that is derived from the hemp plant or from Cannabis plants that contain higher levels of CBD. The CBD is then extracted from the remaining plant matter and nearly all of the THC (a psychoactive compound that gets you “high”) is removed or reduced to a level of less than 0.5% THC. There has been extensive research done on the medical benefits of Cannabis and now that same research is being done on CBD.

There is still ongoing research to be published but what we do know as of mid-2021, is a few key things:

  • CBD reduces inflammation when consumed orally or topically
  • CBD helps with mood, appetite, and depression
  • CBD is used as a pain reliever by everyday folks, athletes (Rob Gronkowski, Patrick Reed, etc), and celebrities.
  • CBD has no THC so it doesn’t get you “high” like traditional Cannabis
  • CBD increases the appetite
  • CBD is a sleep aid
  • CBD is an antioxidant
  • and more

CBD has a wide range of benefits for a large number of different ailments and that is one of the reasons for its ever-growing popularity, it simply works. Another is that CBD is incredibly safe. You cannot overdose on it no matter how much of it you take. This makes it a far safer remedy for chronic pain than dangerous addictive opioids (Percocet, Oxycodone, etc) or dangerous and addictive benzodiazepines (Xanax, Ativan, etc).

Doctors and Physicians are Regularly Recommending CBD

CBD is now being recommended by doctors across Canada and the United States for specific reasons because it has no dangerous addictive or overdose properties. Let’s look at a hypothetical example:

Take a man in his 70’s who suffers from chronic arthritis. He’s been living in pain or taking dangerous opioids when the pain is too great. He lives every day wondering how bad the pain will be and if it’s bad how out of it he’ll feel from the powerful pain medications. This is not a comfortable situation to be in. His doctor recommends oral CBD twice a day, and a cessation of opioids entirely. 2 months later the man is moving better, feeling better, and in far less pain from taking CBD. He can now get off of painkillers permanently.

This hypothetical example is just one way in which CBD is used around the globe.

CBD Merchant Service Accounts

If you want to sell CBD or are already selling CBD there are some key things to keep in mind with your processing. The rules in Canada and the United States are a little different so be sure to know how you can market these products in each respective country. Getting a merchant account approved also still poses some roadblocks for many as CBD (though legal) is still in the grey area for some states. Be sure you’re working with the right merchant service provider and you won’t have to worry about your credit and debit card processing account be shut down without warning.

We are investors in the Cannabis and CBD space and are proud to offer CBD Credit Card Processing Accounts to merchants both in Canada and the United States. Call us today and see how we can get you set up or improve your current processing today.
